Hey all, I want answers. For the longest time, my Rio has a stumble when I shift first to second. Part throttle, and it won't clear out until I floor it. It seems to occur during the first 5 to 10 minutes of run time, around 2500 rpm or so. I thought it was a bad state of tune...I recently did new plugs, wires, and a fuel filter, plus cleaned out the TB and intake using specialty items from work. (BG) So...any ideas? Maybe the ECM or a ground to it? I don't have access to a scan-tool either to monitor engine data. It's intermittent so it would be almost impossible to capture anyway. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Any codes? Anything that may help further?

You try to get in touch with Kevin?

Hello J, nice to hear from you again. :) No codes...no lights...no buzzers or dingers or anything. I do not have anything further that would help...the first post is pretty much it. I have already mentioned to Kevo to check the thread. It's intermittent, but happening more frequently nowadays. Also, the car has 95K on it now. When it doesn't stumble, it runs damn good for the mileage and the abuse I've put it through :)

hmmm sounds like a problem I had when it was cold and since I changed to my MS haven't had a problem since...I think it has to do with the ECU I did everything all the way to changing the fuel pump and still had the problem. I think it is something to deal with or try another ECU

2 of my coworkers also mentioned the TPS. They said to check if it has a dead spot in it since it only clears up when I move the throttle further. I'll try it and if faulty I'll replace it. If it continues to do it, I'll go after the ECU like you suggested.

Rio MAF sensors = Garbage

They don't set DTCs when they crap out either. Pull over and unplug it to see if it runs better RIGHT WHEN IT ACTS UP. Don't even shut the car off when you do it, leave it running.

If you had a T8D, i would ask about coils, but in your case, I would probably ask about plug wires and or plugs. It could even be a coil, but I would check wires and plugs first.

I'll look into the MAF thing too. The plugs and wires are new, Bill. Factory spec NGK standards gapped at 1.0mm per the manual. The wires are Beldwin (Napa Premium) wires and they're new too. Less than 500 miles on the tune-up.

yeah I did the same thing by installing brand new coils also got the same effect. I even spent the money on a TPS still got the same thing and also the IAT, IACV and still nothing untill I got rid of the ECU.

Well guess I will have to live with it then, because I don't have 600 bucks to shell out on a MS-II right now...
LOL Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

If you clean a broken vase, is it any less broken?
